Pretty Penny is one of those Berkeley shops that instantly makes you smile the second you walk in. It’s colorful, welcoming, and full of personality! I literally can’t visit the store without buying something because they do such an amazing job sourcing unique pieces, and I frequent the space enough that I’ve become friends with the owners, Sarah and Nick. Nick has a hair studio upstairs called Hey Pretty! and Sarah also provides styling services, fitting consults, and personal shopping along with curating vintage pieces for the shop. They’re also big believers in building a vibrant community and have started a group for local business owners, which I’m fortunate to be a part of.
When Sarah contacted me about wanting updated photos for the shop, I was thrilled to help bring the vision to life! As a Berkeley and San Francisco Bay Area brand photographer, I love working with local businesses that want their photos to feel just as joyful and unique as their space.
For this lifestyle and brand photo session, we took a very intentional approach: capturing the shop itself, fresh photos of Sarah and Nick together, and real moments of Sarah at work. We also wanted a mix of creative product photos and curated outfit shots on a model, making sure to include plenty of horizontal images and negative space for website design and marketing needs. By the end of the session, they walked away with a full, versatile image library designed for their website, social media, advertising, headshots, and editorial use. Plus we had a blast working together!
