Dog Save the Date Ideas for Couples Who Want Their Pup in the Wedding

If your dog is basically your first child, best friend, and unofficial third member of the relationship, why wouldn’t they get to be part of your wedding announcement?

For this fun collaboration with The Foggy Dog and Dog of Honor Events, we showcased a playful way to announce a wedding date: a custom Save the Date dog bandana starring the most important member of the wedding party!

A Save the Date Your Dog Can Actually Wear

Instead of sending a traditional Save the Date, imagine your pup showing up wearing the announcement, or taking photos with them wearing the bandana and sending that instead!

The Foggy Dog’s embroidered Save the Date bandana can be personalized with your wedding date, turning your dog into the cutest little walking wedding announcement. They also offer multiple different sizes for the variety of pups in your life.

It’s one of those small details that makes an engagement photo and wedding announcement instantly more personal! Because let’s be honest: your friends and family probably want to see your dog just as much as they want to know the wedding date.

Meet Your Dog’s Wedding-Day Job: Dog of Honor

Of course, not every dog is destined to sit quietly through a ceremony. Some dogs have a much more important job.

That’s where Dog of Honor Events comes in. They specialize in helping couples include their dogs in their wedding celebrations, from figuring out logistics to making sure your pup is happy, comfortable, and included throughout the day.

For this project, Dog of Honor Events organized the initial photoshoot concept and joined us as the dog chaperone, helping make sure our four-legged model was ready for their close-up.

Why Include Your Dog in Your Engagement Photos?

If you’re already planning engagement photos, including your dog can make the session feel even more like you.

Your engagement photos don’t have to be a series of perfectly posed portraits. They can tell the story of your relationship, including the weird, colorful, goofy, and very important parts.

If your dog is part of your everyday life, bring them along!

We can photograph them running around, snuggling with you, showing off their favorite accessory, or simply being their ridiculous little selves. We can also build the entire concept around your pup!

Think:

  • A custom Save the Date bandana
  • Your dog’s favorite park or neighborhood
  • A favorite dog-friendly restaurant or brewery
  • Colorful murals
  • Your favorite walking route
  • A picnic with your pup
  • A vintage car
  • Your dog’s favorite toy
  • A dog-friendly beach
  • A full-on editorial portrait of your dog because obviously they deserve it

Your Dog Doesn’t Have to Be in Every Photo

You love your dog, but you also love your partner, and despite what your dog might think, they’re not always the center of your relationship. (My dog certainly thinks otherwise! 🤣)

Including your dog doesn’t mean your entire photo session has to revolve around them. We can do a little bit of everything, and if you have a dog chaperone like Dog of Honor Events, or a trusted friend or family member that can be present with us, that’ll be even better! Then we can focus on just the two of you for some moments!

That way you get the goofy dog photos and the romantic engagement portraits. It’s the best of both worlds!

Make Your Save the Date Feel Like You

There are so many ways to announce your wedding date, but the best ones are the ones that actually feel like the couple. If you’re colorful, quirky, playful, or just completely obsessed with your dog, a traditional Save the Date might not be your thing.

Maybe your Save the Date is a photo of your dog wearing an embroidered bandana. Maybe it’s a photo of the three of you at your favorite spot. Maybe it’s a ridiculous portrait of your dog looking extremely serious about the upcoming nuptials.

I’m here for all of it!

And if your dog is going to be part of your wedding, engagement session, or Save the Date, let’s make them part of the story from the very beginning.

Planning a Dog-Friendly Wedding?

You don’t have to figure out all the dog logistics yourself!

Dog of Honor Events can help couples incorporate their pups into their wedding celebrations, while I can create colorful, personality-filled photographs that actually feel like you.

And if your dog is going to be wearing a custom Save the Date bandana or other cute attire? Even better!

Because every great wedding announcement deserves a very good dog. 🤗
