When I met Melan at an art fair in Oakland, California, I was immediately drawn to not only her colorful and whimsical food paintings, but also her bright personality and bold outfit choices! Plus there were lots and lots of eggs! If you don’t know…I have a thing for eggs; I eat them every morning (sunny side up with toast or english muffin and avocado), and my favorite painting is of a sunny side up egg that I purchased on a whim in Mexico. Besides how much I love the taste, there’s just something fun and quirky about eggs!
Well, Melan also has a history with eggs but it’s quite different than my story and as it turns out, she’s not a fan of the taste at all. But they do show up in her ceramic art and she’s made hundreds (maybe thousands?) of ceramic eggs! Yes, I bought one of course! Anyway, we got to talking at the fair and she mentioned wanting to do a photoshoot with her ceramic eggs, so I took that and ran with it and we created a whole photoshoot inspired by eggs and her artwork.

In this photoshoot I wanted to emphasize creative ways to show off a personality and brand without doing the obvious. Melan is a painter, but all of these images show more than just her painting a canvas. While some of her artwork is on display, you also get a bigger sense of who she is and what she brings to the table with her fun up-for-anything personality!
And since she paints large scale food, I thought it would be fun to incorporate some oversized food props, which were all made by me and all inspired by different artwork she created.
If you want to stand out, you have to do something different. I’m all for out-of-the-box thinking! See some of my favorite photos from our Food + Art Photoshoot below, and click here to inquire about creative photography for your own brand and products!
(P.S. Can you find the original photo inspiration with all her ceramic eggs?)
