Engagement photoshoots aren’t just about having nice images to share on your wedding website or another box to check when planning a wedding; they’re about marking a memorable time in your life and creating core memories together! While absolutely not a necessary part of wedding planning, if it’s something that you and your partner are interested in, here are a few ways to make your engagement photo session unique and memorable:

💛 Brainstorm
How do you want your photos to feel? What should the energy be like? When you close your eyes and picture yourself with your partner, what comes to mind? Take some time to sort of create a vision in your head of what feels true to you and your relationship. Starting here will help the other steps fall into place.

💛 Be intentional about your location
The backdrop that you choose will play a big part in the feeling of the photoshoot. What did you envision in step 1? Was it bold colors and a playful feeling? Then maybe a funky and fun location like an amusement park would work well (like the one pictured above in Santa Cruz)! Was it more of a soft and romantic feeling? Maybe some warm grassy fields or a garden would be ideal.

💛 Add something extra!
Bring a fun prop or incorporate an element that’s all about the two of you! Whether it’s cute sunglasses, a hat, flowers, candy, disco balls, a custom jacket, a special car, or anything else; you’ll love how it gives variety to your gallery and makes the photos feel more like you!

💛 Incorporate actions
Going to a park? Why not get on the swings and play around?! Walking downtown? Stop in an ice cream shop and grab a treat together! Adding actions gives you something to do and makes it feel more like a date than a photoshoot. It’ll make the day even more memorable and you’ll feel relaxed.

💛 Enjoy the moment
